About Grand Manor
Grand Manor is a super-heavyweight luxury shingle on a fiberglass mat: two full-size base layers plus a random-tab top layer, 18 by 36 inches with an eight-inch exposure. Installed, it reads as a five-course slate roof.
In the summer of 2021 CertainTeed suspended production of Grand Manor and several other low-volume luxury lines during pandemic supply problems. Trade sources report the lines later returned in limited production. Matt's experience in Oklahoma was that stock was effectively gone for close to two years.
How to recognize it
Very thick shingle edge, visible from the ground on the eaves and rakes. Deep, layered shadow lines with a random tab rhythm rather than a repeating pattern.
Ridge and starter pieces are product-specific and sold in fixed increments, which is one of the things adjusters routinely price at the wrong line item.
What to photograph
- The eave edge from below to show the shingle thickness.
- A straight-on photo of a slope with the tab rhythm visible, plus one close photo of a single course.
- Missing or damaged shingles with the slope noted; on a large roof, note roughly how many per slope.

Can it be repaired with matching material?
Grand Manor is orderable again, but a roof installed before the pause may not match a current lot in color or weathering. On one Oklahoma claim in 2022, an independent lab confirmed no matching stock existed and the roof was replaced rather than patched. That was the evidence, not the product name, that decided it.
Send the sample early. Lab turnaround can run two weeks or more, and having the report before the adjuster visit shortened that 2022 claim considerably.
What the manufacturer offers now
Belmont is the closest current CertainTeed look at a lower weight, and some homeowners moved to it when Grand Manor was unavailable. It is a different shingle with different wind behavior, not a repair match.
Grand Manor's own accessories (starter, ridge) should be used for repairs; generic accessories change the look and the warranty position.
Where Matt sees it
Grand Manor shows up on larger acreage homes and estate lots around Edmond, Arcadia and north Oklahoma City. Roofs of 80 to 100 squares are common on these houses, so the repair-versus-replace question has real weight.
Insurance claim, manufacturer warranty, or a cash repair
Wind or hail damage is a claim against your homeowner policy. Matt photographs the damage slope by slope, sends a sample for independent identification when the product is in question, and builds the scope from what the evidence supports. Whether the outcome is a repair or a replacement is decided case by case from your policy and the documentation, not from the word discontinued.
CertainTeed's SureStart limited warranty applies. The 2021 pause does not create a warranty claim by itself; product condition does, and that is reviewed by the manufacturer with your purchase records. A manufacturer warranty review is a separate process from an insurance claim. It starts with the original purchase or installation records and the manufacturer's own inspection, and each claim is reviewed on its own facts. Matt can document the roof condition for it; he cannot promise how the manufacturer will decide or what, if anything, the homeowner will pay.
For a few damaged pieces with no storm and no defect pattern, a straightforward paid repair with the closest available material is often the sensible call. Matt tells you when that is the case and what the repair will look like from the ground before he does it.
CertainTeed Grand Manor questions
Grand Manor is back in production, so why would a repair still be a problem?
Because the shingle on your roof is years older than anything coming off the line now. Color, granule blend and weathering all move. Whether a current lot is a reasonable match for your roof is a question a lab sample answers, and Matt orders that report before the adjuster meeting rather than after.
How do I know it is Grand Manor and not Belmont?
Thickness and layering. Grand Manor is noticeably thicker at the edge and reads as a five-course roof. If there is any doubt, the wrapper, the invoice or a sample settles it.
